Learn About Color Harmony
What do these harmony types mean?
Complementary — one color plus its opposite on the wheel. High contrast, bold.
Analogous — colors next to each other on the wheel. Calm, cohesive, low contrast.
Triadic — three colors evenly spaced around the wheel. Vibrant but balanced.
Split-Complementary — a base color plus the two colors next to its opposite. Contrast with less tension than pure complementary.
Tetradic — four colors in two complementary pairs. Rich and varied; use one color as dominant.
Monochromatic — one hue at different lightness levels. Safe, elegant, great for shading a single motif.
Why does the "ideal" color differ from the matched bead?
Real beads only come in the colors manufacturers actually produce. This tool uses Delta-E distance in Lab color space — a measurement designed to match how human eyes perceive color difference — to find the closest real bead to your ideal color in each brand's catalog.
