Accessibility at Krazy Stitcher
What works, what does not work yet, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
Last updated: October 11, 2026
Our commitment
We want everyone who designs or follows a bead pattern to be able to use Krazy Stitcher, including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, who need larger text or stronger contrast, who are colorblind, or who use a screen reader. This page says plainly where we are, including the parts that fall short.
The standard we use
We work toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We are partially conformant: much of the website and the apps meets that level, and some parts do not yet. We evaluated the website and the Base, Pro and Studio apps ourselves in October 2026; no outside auditor has reviewed them. A detailed conformance report (a VPAT) is available on request: email info@krazystitcher.com.
What works today
- Website. Every page has a language, a unique title, one main heading and no skipped heading levels. Keyboard users do not get trapped, and a skip link takes you past the menu on almost every page. When you tab backwards, the fixed header no longer completely hides the item you reach. Text-spacing changes, 200% zoom and portrait or landscape screens do not break the pages. There is no video, audio or flashing content.
- Keyboard drawing. In all three apps you can tab to the pattern grid, move a cursor with the arrow keys (hold Ctrl to move ten cells) and press Enter or Space to act with the current tool. Base does this for draw, erase, fill and pick. Pro and Studio also do it for line, rectangle, filled rectangle, select and text (line, rectangle and select take two presses, start and finish, and Escape cancels) and open the 1 Cell symbol picker. A hidden announcement says the column, row and bead under the cursor.
- Dialogs and shortcuts. When a window opens, keyboard focus moves into it, Tab stays inside it, and focus returns to the button you used when it closes. One-letter shortcuts are ignored while a window is open, and Help has a switch to turn them off. Space and Enter press the button you are on.
- Not relying on color alone. Colors in the Used in Pattern list and the Bead Count window show a symbol, and you can show symbols on the pattern grid as well. Exports include a symbol and color key, a black-and-white symbol chart, and a plain-text chart.
- Seeing the screen. The apps have light and dark themes, three text sizes, and a high-contrast keyboard focus ring (deep blue in the light theme, gold in the dark theme). Pro and Studio have a Large Print mode with bigger text and heavier grid lines.
- Motion. The apps contain no flashing content, and animation is reduced when your device asks for reduced motion. On the website, the character on product and information pages has a Pause button and starts paused when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Forms. You can paste into the license key field, and the apps never ask you to solve a puzzle or retype information.
What does not work well yet
In the apps
- Base keyboard drawing is limited. Base’s keyboard cursor does draw, erase, fill and pick only; its line, rectangle, oval, select and text tools need a pointer. Pro and Studio have no oval tool. Fringe editing needs a pointer in every edition.
- The follow-along tools are only partly accessible. Reader Mode, the Stitching Guide and the Row Tracker in Pro and Studio now announce when the row changes, but bead colors there have no names, and Base’s row tracker is not announced. We have not yet heard any of this in a screen reader. The pattern grid itself is drawn on a canvas and has no text alternative. The complete row-by-row text is in the exports (Text Chart and Word Chart).
- Contrast. The grid lines are faint by default (Large Print in Pro and Studio fixes this; Base has no Large Print mode), and some text in dark-mode dialogs is too light.
- Small and nested controls. Some controls are smaller than 24 pixels, and the pattern list, workspace tabs and layer rows place buttons inside other controls, which some screen readers announce confusingly.
- Small screens and zoom. At 320 pixels wide the Bead Count and About windows are clipped, and at 200% zoom the backup reminder can cover menu items such as Print.
On this website
- Some keyboard focus outlines in the footer and on red buttons (for example Buy Now) are fainter than they should be.
- The menu and footer links differ a little between pages, and some footer links are smaller than 24 pixels on a phone.
- Comparison tables use check and cross symbols that a screen reader may not announce clearly as Yes and No, and the menu is marked up as two navigation regions on many pages.
- We have not yet checked the downloadable PDF and Word guides for accessibility.
Until these are fixed: the text exports give you every row of a pattern; and if you need a pattern in a form that works for you, tell us and we will make you a text version.
How we tested
We tested the website and the three apps ourselves in October 2026 using the axe-core scanner, scripted keyboard and zoom tests, and review of the page code, in the Chrome (Chromium) browser only. We have not tested with screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver, with Firefox or Safari, on touch devices, or with voice control, so some problems may not have been found. If you use any of these and run into trouble, we especially want to hear from you.
Report any problem
If something on this website or in the apps is hard or impossible to use, please tell us. Email info@krazystitcher.com and include:
- the page or the tool, and what you were trying to do,
- what happened instead,
- your browser and any assistive technology you use (optional but helpful).
We will reply within 10 business days. We will then fix the problem or tell you why we cannot and what we can do instead, within 30 days. In the apps you can also open the bug report window with Ctrl+Shift+B.
